Need a Laptop That Does it All? Get the New MSI Creator 16 AI Studio A1VHG

Some time ago, many creators, designers, digital artists and engineers realised that the most powerful laptops on the market were gaming laptops. However, a tricked-out gaming laptop was not always ideal for work-oriented tasks. Consequently, the likes of Nvidia and MSI started tweaking gaming laptops’ hardware, software and drivers to better suit creators and the latest result of these efforts is the MSI Creator 16 AI Studio A1VHG. Here’s why you need one…

First up, the Creator 16 AI Studio A1VHG is absolutely packed with power. It comes with a powerful, 16-core Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor which wields six Performance cores, eight Efficient cores and two Low Power Efficient cores that operate between 1.0 and 5.1GHz. The processor also has an integrated NPU for Ai-related tasks and integrated, octa-core Intel Arc graphics that operate at 2.35GHz for high power-efficiency workloads. You won’t need the latter for demanding tasks, though as it also features discreet graphics in the form of a top-end, 12GB Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 GPU (a 16GB RTX 4090 version is also available).

Add to this 64GB of DDR5-5600 RAM and a big, fast, 2TB NVMe hard drive and you’ve plenty of oomph to render; design in VR; work with massive photo and video files;and, of course, play games.

Everything is cooled using the latest evolution of MSI’s Cooler Boost 5 technology. This has two fans and seven (count’em!) shared heat pipes, for maximum, heat-banishing efficiency when performing heavy workloads.

Whatever task you’re doing will look phenomenal on the stunning, 16-inch ‘True Pixel’ display. It has a matte coating to banish annoying reflections while Mini-LED backlighting provides superlative HDR contrast, true blacks and vibrant colours. The 3,840 x 2,400 resolution keeps everything pin sharp and the 120Hz refresh rate keeps fast-moving objects blur-free. It also has an eye-melting 1000-nit brightness rating which doesn’t just further-enhance contrast, it makes the laptop usable outdoors.

On top of all that, the display supports 100 per cent of the tricky DCI-P3 colour gamut and each unit is factory calibrated and verified by Calman. It also folds down flat to show clients your work when sitting opposite them. It’s one of the very best on the market.

Other forms of interacting with the Creator 16 AI Studio A1VHG are also top drawer. There are an extraordinary six speakers inside the svelte chassis: two 2-Watt tweeters and four, 2-Watt woofers. These, not surprisingly, are capable of delivering loud, well-rounded audio with punchy bass.

The full-sized keyboard is very comfortable and accurate to type upon for extended periods. It also has full-sized arrow keys, a number pad and plenty of useful shortcuts. The large, smooth trackpad is high quality and quiet and accurate when used.

Above the screen is an excellent Full HD webcam and with a noise-cancelling microphone array for top-quality streaming and casting. The webcam supports facial-recognition Windows Hello login and there’s a fingerprint reader which does likewise.

Connectivity is generous and well above rivals who think the world just revolves around USB-C ports. There’s a Thunderbolt 4 port, USB-A 3.2 Gen 2, USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, a fast (UHS-III) microSD card slot, a 3.5mm audio jack, HDMI 2.1 and a quick 2.5GbE Ethernet port. On top of that, there’s the latest Bluetooth 5.4 wireless connectivity and Wi-Fi 7 for those who want to work on UHD video files that are stored across a wireless network (no more expensive, tethered, portable hard drives required!) In our recent testing, the Creator 16 AI Studio managed 1,597Mbps wireless transfer speeds!

You may think such a powerful portable computer is not actually very portable at all, but you’d be wrong. The A1VHG is just 20mm thick and weighs around 2KG (depending on SKU). It’s also got a full-sized battery which, in this review’s testing, lasted between nine and ten hours – that’s more than a full day out of the office.

Being one of MSI’s premium laptops means it’s also been torture tested to ensure it can survive a life on the road. MSI says of it, “The Creator 16 AI Studio A1V features a Magnesium-Aluminum (MgAl) alloy. Unlike typical aluminum, it employs an aero-industrial grade alloy called AZ91D, a blend of Magnesium and Aluminum. This alloy, widely used in the automotive and aerospace industries for its light weight and strength, offers an additional benefit – it’s fingerprint-resistant. This lightweight and sturdy laptop is an optimal choice for portability.” It’s also military-grade MIL-STD-810H certified for toughness.

So, if you need an ultimate laptop which can do anything you might want a laptop to do – whether it’s for work or play – the Creator 16 AI Studio A1VHG needs to be at the top of your list. The best news is that MSI is still running its holiday laptop sale with massive discounts. Check it out right now!
