At High Performance Laptops, we’re particular fans of ultraportable laptops that are powerful enough to perform high-intensity workloads, fast enough to run the best-looking games (smoothly) and ergonomic enough to comfortably be used all day for work (and entertainment). But, who isn’t? We call such do-it-all devices, unicorn laptops, and they’re few and far between. However, the latest AMD-powered MSI Stealth A16 AI+ A3XW ticks all the boxes. We teamed up with MSI to tell you what’s good about it…
Why Is The MSI Stealth A16 AI+ A3XW So Good To Use?
First up, there are the looks. The Stealth range has traditionally taken its design cues from ninjas and stealth bombers: entities that can simultaneously look cool and draw minimal attention to themselves. But then, Bang! You open it up and are greeted by an assault of RGB from the keyboard and super-bright, high-performing screen that’s perfect for gaming, work and entertainment.
Traditionally a gaming range, this new Stealth model is actually, first and foremost, designed to boost the productivity of design professionals and creators. The 16-inch QHD+ OLED screen, with its 2,560 x 1,600 resolution, is great for those wanting to work (or engage) with high-resolution media or multiple office windows at once. Being an OLED display, colours are vibrant, blacks are true and contrast sublime. HDR compatibility means that details can be revealed in both shadows and highlights at the same time. Designers will like that it supports 100 per cent of the tricky DCI-P3 colour space.
Oh, and it has a 240Hz refresh rate which marries with the quick OLED pixel-response time to keep fast-moving objects blur free to a degree that even demanding, competitive, FPS gamers will like.
Despite being (just under) 2cm thick, MSI includes six (count’em!) 2-Watt speakers (including two woofers) for loud and well-rounded audio and full multimedia immersion.
Above the screen there’s a Full HD webcam that offers 3D Noise Reduction+ technology for enhanced web conferencing and streaming. It’s partnered by an infra-red camera that supports Windows Hello login (as does an integrated fingerprint reader).
Then there’s the excellent steelseries RGB keyboard which features very-usable arrow keys and a full number pad. Add to that a full complement of the latest wired and wireless connectivity (including Wi-Fi 7) and you’ve got a laptop that’s a joy to interact with – all day, every day.
It’s Portable Too
Stacked laptops are often heavy and suck when it comes to battery life. However, the 16-inch Stealth A16 AI+ A3XW weighs just 2.1KG and its maximum-sized, 99.9Wh battery ran our PCMark Battery Life 10 test for fourteen and a half hours! What’s more, its magnesium-aluminium alloy chassis is incredibly strong so it should easily survive life on the road.
But, Is It Powerful?… Yes!
Inside the MSI Stealth A16 AI+ A3XW is AMD’s powerful mobile ‘Strix Point’ processor, the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 which has 16 cores, that run 32 threads, between 2.5GHz and 5.4GHz. It’s backed-up by up-to 64GB of LPDDR5 memory and has an upgradable, fast, PCIe Gen 4 NVMe drive slot.
On top of that, there’s Nvidia’s latest-and-greatest GeForce graphics. Options stretch from the RTX 5070 Ti, through the RTX 5080, to the top-tier RTX 5090 and come with 12GB to 24GB of rapid, GDDR7 memory. They work with Nvidia’s DLSS 4 frame-rate acceleration technology, to maximise UHD gaming performance with maximum eye-candy settings turned on.
It’s so powerful, in fact, that it can even be used for Edge-computing style office SLM (Small Language Model) Ai tasks including meeting summarisation, presentation optimisation, interactive learning, video semantic analysis and writing assistance. Not surprisingly, it’s compatible with all of Microsoft’s CoPilot+ Ai features and you can even interact with it using your voice, via the integrated MSI AI Robot app.
Everything is kept cool by MSI’s mature Cooler Boost 5 technology which uses up-to seven heat pipes and two fans to keep everything stable when under load (and completely silent when performing more-passive tasks).
Meanwhile, the MSI Center app lets you manually choose whether you want maximum, overclocked power, or to disable the Nvidia graphics (with its MUX switch) to maximise battery life. You can also let the laptop’s Ai automatically select the most appropriate power mode without you having to think about it.
It’s difficult to imagine a performance-demanding user who wouldn’t want the MSI Stealth A16 AI+ A3XW. It doesn’t just do everything, it does everything really well! And it looks fantastic!
