Lenovo Appoints Dr. Tolga Kurtoglu as New Chief Technology Officer

Lenovo has announced the appointment of Dr. Tolga Kurtoglu as the company’s new Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Dr. Kurtoglu succeeds Dr. Yong Rui, who has held the position for the past seven years. This leadership change is part of Lenovo’s ongoing effort to strengthen its technology vision and AI leadership.

Dr. Kurtoglu is known for his extensive experience in the IT industry, having held prominent roles such as CTO of HP Inc. and Global Head of HP Labs, CEO of Xerox Palo Alto Research Center, and leader of the product development group at Dell. He holds numerous patents and has published extensively in the fields of automation, machine intelligence, computational design, systems engineering, and 3D/digital manufacturing.

Yuanqing Yang, Chairman and CEO of Lenovo, commented on the new appointment, saying, “As we embrace the significant opportunities in AI, I’m pleased to welcome Tolga to Lenovo. His experience across hardware, software, and AI technologies will enhance our innovation leadership and our focus on smarter AI for all.”

Dr. Kurtoglu expressed his enthusiasm for joining Lenovo, stating, “I’ve long admired Lenovo for its commitment to innovation. At a time when AI is transforming industries and empowering individuals, I’m eager to work with research teams globally to accelerate the development of Lenovo’s portfolio and deliver advanced, flexible, and responsible AI solutions.”

Lenovo has also announced the creation of a new Emerging Technology Group. This group will be responsible for identifying and developing emerging technology trends into future business opportunities. Dr. Yong Rui, who previously led Lenovo’s research efforts as CTO, will now serve as President of the Emerging Technology Group.

Dr. Rui spoke about his new role, saying, “This is a pivotal time for the technology industry, with new transformative technologies emerging. I’ve been passionate about incubating and commercializing new technologies throughout my career, and I’m excited to lead Lenovo’s new Emerging Technology Group.”

In his new role, Dr. Kurtoglu will lead Lenovo’s Research team, oversee its innovation ecosystem, ensure the alignment of the company’s technological vision with its business objectives, and serve on the Lenovo Executive Committee. This leadership transition is part of Lenovo’s broader strategy to advance its AI capabilities and maintain its position as a global technology leader.

Lenovo’s CEO, Yuanqing Yang, will discuss the company’s innovation strategy and focus on AI at Lenovo Tech World’24, scheduled for October 15, 2024. This event will provide further insights into Lenovo’s future plans and its commitment to advancing AI technology.
