Asus ROG XBox Ally And Ally X Open For Pre-Order In Australia

Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG) has opened pre-orders for its latest handheld gaming devices, the ROG XBox Ally and ROG XBox Ally X. The models, developed in partnership with XBox, will be available in Australia from 11:00am AEST on September 26, ahead of a global launch on October 16.

The devices are designed to blend console and PC gaming, offering what Asus describes as gen-on-gen performance improvements powered by new AMD Ryzen processors.

The ROG XBox Ally will retail for $999 and is aimed at players seeking a compact Windows-based handheld. The higher-spec ROG XBox Ally X will cost $1,599 and is positioned for gamers who want extended performance and battery life.

Hardware Updates

The ROG XBox Ally is powered by an AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor that focuses on energy efficiency. The ROG XBox Ally X features the AMD Ryzen Ai Z2 Extreme, which includes an onboard neural processing unit (NPU) designed for future Ai-enabled gaming functions.

Asus said the new processors provide performance gains over the previous ROG Ally series. During testing on pre-release hardware, the ROG XBox Ally X achieved up to 30 per cent better performance in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Doom: The Dark Ages, and up to twice the battery life when playing Hollow Knight: Silksong.

The ROG XBox Ally recorded up to 20 per cent higher performance in Forza Horizon 5 and Gears of War: Reloaded, with up to 110 per cent more battery life compared with its predecessor.

Both models integrate Radeon’s latest software enhancements, including FidelityFX Super Resolution, Radeon Super Resolution and Fluid Motion Frames, which can improve frame rates by up to 60 per cent.

Positioning For The Future

Asus said the inclusion of the NPU in the Ally X anticipates a future where Ai features are increasingly built into games. While these uses are limited today, the company said the hardware ensures readiness for emerging titles.

The two handhelds run Windows 11 and are intended to give players access to their existing PC gaming libraries alongside Xbox Game Pass titles.

Market Rollout

The ROG XBox Ally series is being positioned as a bridge between console-style design and PC flexibility, offering a full-screen format with familiar ergonomics.

“Gamers can pre-order from today with a launch set for October 16,” Asus said. “Both models provide options for players depending on their performance needs and budgets, while ensuring consistent access to games across PC storefronts and Xbox services.”
