Asus Republic of Gamers (ROG) has announced that pre-orders are now open in Australia for its new handheld gaming devices, the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X.
Partnership With Xbox
Developed in collaboration with Xbox, both models combine console and PC features in a portable Windows 11 device. ROG said the design prioritises ergonomics, display quality and integration with gaming libraries across major storefronts.
Global availability is scheduled for October 16. The ROG Xbox Ally will be priced at $999, while the ROG Xbox Ally X will retail for $1,599. Pre-orders are available through the Microsoft Store, Asus e-Shop and participating retailers.
Hardware Options
The ROG Xbox Ally runs on AMD’s Ryzen Z2 A processor, which focuses on energy efficiency for longer gaming sessions. The higher-end ROG Xbox Ally X is powered by the Ryzen Ai Z2 Extreme processor, designed for demanding AAA titles and improved battery performance.
Both systems represent a generational upgrade on the original ROG Ally. ROG said the devices support Radeon’s latest software features, including FidelityFX Super Resolution, Radeon Super Resolution and Fluid Motion Frames, which boost frame rates and graphical performance.
Performance Gains
According to Asus, the ROG Xbox Ally X demonstrated up to 30 per cent higher performance in pre-release testing on titles such as Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Doom: The Dark Ages, compared to the previous model. Battery life was reported as up to twice as long when playing Hollow Knight: Silksong.
The standard ROG Xbox Ally showed up to 20 per cent performance gains in Forza Horizon 5 and Gears of War: Reloaded, with as much as 110 per cent more battery life compared to the earlier generation.
Looking Ahead
The ROG Xbox Ally X includes an onboard NPU to support emerging Ai-powered gaming features. While current adoption of Ai in games is limited, Asus said the device is equipped to handle future enhancements as they roll out.
“Gamers are looking for flexibility, and with ROG Xbox Ally we’re combining the portability of handhelds with the performance of PC gaming,” a spokesperson for Asus ROG said. “Our collaboration with Xbox brings console-level experiences to players who want choice in how and where they play.”
Aimed At Different Users
Asus said the ROG Xbox Ally is targeted at casual players and enthusiasts who want a balance of price and portability, while the ROG Xbox Ally X is aimed at users seeking maximum performance and battery life.
