Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme Tablet announced

Dell set to announce new 10-inch rugged tablet

Dell has announced a new, 10-inch, fully ruggedised, Windows tablet for workers in hostile environments called the Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme Tablet. It follows in the footsteps of other rugged devices from Dell, like the Dell Latitude 7330 Rugged Extreme which costs around US$10,000 and has to be ordered by request. However, as we noted in that review, expensive rugged laptops and tablets are tools for a trade and, if you need one, the price will be irrelevant compared to the productivity benefits that come with it.

The Dell Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme Tablet was on show at a recent Dell Technologies Forum in Sydney.

We saw the tablet’s predecessor at a recent Dell Technologies Forum in Sydney: the Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme Tablet. Like the 7330 laptop, it came with with two, hot-swappable, 53.5Wh batteries for perpetual power. When we reviewed the 7330 laptop, they combined to last for a best-ever 20 hours 11 minutes, which will please those who operate away from power sockets and/or in the middle of nowhere.

There’s no word on price yet, and going by the small image of the Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme Tablet that we have, it doesn’t look too different to the Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme Tablet.

Announcing the Dell Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme Tablet

It’s so new that, as we went to press, this was the only image available of the Dell Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme Tablet. As such, for the main article image, we bulked up the background using that new-fangled Generative A.I. technology to position it in a dangerous environment. We think it went rather well.

Dell says, “The Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme Tablet’s durability and mobility is ideal for first responders constantly on the move or workers operating long shifts on the warehouse floor. Made for professionals who spend most of their day away from a desk, the tablet will be available with an ecosystem of accessories and a dual hot-swappable battery option for extended use. The Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme Tablet is designed to withstand the elements”

Dell adds that the Latitude 7030 Rugged Extreme Tablet is military-spec, MIL-STD 810 certified for durability and IP-65 rated (protected against dust and water jets but not immersion). Dell also says, “With an extensive suite of security features, the tablet is as safe from cyber threats as it is from environmental ones.”

High Performance Laptops will be reviewing the Dell Latitude 7230 Rugged Extreme Tablet as soon as we can.
