Dynabook ANZ has announced the launch of the latest, 12th Gen updates to its Satellite Pro laptop range: a new 14-inch C40-K and a 15.6-inch C50-K. Both are iterations on previous versions, like the Dynabook Satellite Pro C50-H.
According to the release, highlights of the new business laptops are that they’re ultra-slim, have narrow bezels surrounding the display plus a, “New USB-C port” which apparently refers to there being a single USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port rather than Thunderbolt 4.

We’re a little cautious about the news of both being, “Coated with a special anti-bacterial dark blue finish to inhibit bacterial growth.” If this is anything like the coating on the recent Dynabook Portégé X40L-K, it’s likely to attract grime and fingerprints like nothing that’s come before it.
Dynabook states that the coating is IONPURE which is a Japanese antimicrobial powder made up of a soluble glass that contains antimicrobial, inorganic, silver ions for commercial and industrial use. It’s, “Designed to be incorporated into various materials to help them inhibit the growth of bacteria” and is part of the paint on the lid cover, palm rest, display bezel and underside. However, a disclaimer adds that, “The antimicrobial properties do not protect users or others against bacteria or other disease organisms.” Hmm.

Angela Walker, Dynabook ANZ’s General Manager said, “The Satellite Pro range is incredibly popular with our customers who need a product that is packed with features to enable them to work from anywhere. With hybrid working being ubiquitous now, the Satellite Pro C40-K and C50-K range offer the perfect starting point for those who are looking for no compromise mobility. The new Satellite Pro C40-K and Satellite Pro C50-K models deliver a solid toolkit for everyday computing, in an attractive package.”

The weight of the laptops start at 1.38KG for the Satellite Pro C40-K and 1.62KG for the C50-K. Both are under 19mm thick and have a ‘fresh, non-reflective, matte, dark-blue finish.’ Battery life is stated to be up to 8 hours (C40-K) and 7 hours (C50-K).
Connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, HDMI 1.4b, three (aging) USB-A 3.0 ports, a USB-C 3.2 port (with Power Delivery), a 3.5mm audio jack, Gigabit Ethernet and a MicroSD card reader. It’s worth noting that some of these technologies are getting a little long in the tooth and they’re already common on many rival portable laptops.

Security features include a TPM 2.0-backed fingerprint reader and some variants will include Windows Hello, facial-recognition login. All webcams have a hardware privacy shutter.

Multiple SKUs of both the Satellite Pro C40-K and Satellite Pro C50-K will be available in January 2023 from the regular Dynabook resellers and prices start at $1,300 RRP. We just hope that Dynabook hasn’t left its Antipodean launch too late, as many similarly-specified laptops have been on the market for some time. Plus, it’s widely expected that new 13th Gen laptops will appear around then.
