Intel and AMD have announced the formation of an x86 ecosystem advisory group aimed at advancing innovation across the computing landscape. The new group brings together leading tech companies, including Broadcom, Dell, Google, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, HP Inc., Lenovo, Meta, Microsoft, Oracle, and Red Hat. The goal is to improve architectural interoperability and simplify software development across the ecosystem.
The announcement was made on October 15 in Santa Clara, California. This collaboration signals a significant move by Intel and AMD to ensure that the x86 architecture remains the dominant computing platform by fostering compatibility and innovation.
A New Era for x86 Architecture
For over four decades, x86 has been a cornerstone of modern computing, widely adopted in data centres and PCs. The new advisory group aims to support its continued evolution. With increasing demand for customised solutions, Ai workloads, and advancements in 3D packaging and chiplet technology, industry leaders believe it is the right time to expand the x86 ecosystem.
