New Acer Nitro 17 announced

Updated Acer Nitro 17 budget gaming laptop unveiled at CES

As part of a slew of new gaming laptop announcements, at the Las Vegas-based CES tech expo, Acer unveiled a new member of its popular, Nitro, budget gaming laptop line, the 17-inch Acer Nitro 17.

The new laptop features Intel’s brand-new, 14th-Gen processor (up to a Core i7-14700HX) with its Ai-focused NPU (Neural Processing Unit) plus Nvidia’s RTX 4000 series GPUs (up to a 4060). These processors are flanked by up-to 16GB of DDR5-5600 RAM and up-to 2TB of fast, NVMe storage.

It also sports a new dedicated button to activate Microsoft’s Ai-based Windows Copilot app.

The Acer Nitro 17 has a sizeable, 17.3-inch, 16:9, UHD, 2,560 x 1,440 IPS screen with a quick, 165Hz refresh rate. It also supports 100 per cent of the difficult DCI-P3 colour gamut which designers will like.

Cooling comes via Acer’s dual-fan, quad-intake and quad-exhaust system, plus Acer’s “Vector” heat pipe system and liquid-metal thermal grease (on the CPU) to fend-off thermal throttling and help keep components operating at full potential.

The 14th-Gen processor’s NPU assists with webconferencing and streaming in conjunction with Acer’s PurifiedVoice 2.0 technology which features a triple-microphone set-up to filter unwanted ambient noise and allow users’ voices to, “Stand out through its speakers” (which have DTS:X Ultra technology). The HD webcam utilises Acer’s Ai-powered PurifiedView tech to facilitate automatic framing, (the contentious) eye-contact feature and sharper background blur.

As before, Acer’s NitroSense app enables users to customise the keyboard’s four-zone, RGB lighting colours, change the laptop’s performance mode and provides an easy-to-see dashboard displaying the laptop’s performance, temperature, power meters and other details, in real-time.

Connectivity includes two Thunderbolt 4 connectors, HDMI 2.1 video-out and a microSD card reader. It also comes with “Killer DoubleShotPro Ethernet E3100G” – 2.5Gbps Ethernet – plus, Wi-Fi 6E.
