AMD has announced the Ryzen 7000 Series Desktop Processors, powered by its “Zen 4” architecture. They’re aimed at gamers, enthusiasts and content creators and will be available from 27 September.
The Ryzen 7000 Series desktop processors have up to 16 cores and 32 threads and deliver a double-digit Instructions Per Clock increase over Zen 3. AMD says they are, “The first high-performance x86 5nm CPUs, delivering not only up to 15 per cent faster gaming performance than the competition, but they do so with unmatched efficiency. Under heavy load, the top-end Ryzen 9 7950X is up to 47 per cent more efficient than the competition.”
AMD also announced the AM5 desktop platform to support these processors. It features “Cutting edge connectivity features” which include dual-channel DDR5 memory and up to 24 PCIe 5 lanes. The AM5 socket will be available with four chipsets: X670 Extreme, X670 and both will become available in September. The new B650E and B650 chipsets will become available in October.
At the announcement, AMD also provided the world’s first public demonstration of the next-gen AMD Radeon RX graphics card – powered by the all-new AMD RDNA 3 architecture – which is expected to launch later this year. When paired with the new Ryzen 9 7950X processor, a demonstration showcased incredible gameplay of the highly anticipated Lies of P in 4K at ultra-settings running on a pre-production RDNA 3 GPU.
There was no word on mobile versions of the new Ryzen 7000 CPUs, Zen 4 architecture or Radeon RX GPUs for laptops but, considering how well the previous generation performed, we’re looking forward to seeing them. You can watch the whole announcement below…
