Microsoft Adds Productivity Boosts to 365 Copilot

Microsoft has introduced a new wave of updates to its Microsoft 365 Copilot, aimed at improving how teams collaborate and manage workflows. The updates, which include enhanced features for Excel, Teams, and Outlook, are part of Microsoft’s broader strategy to integrate Ai into everyday business operations.

Copilot Pages for Collaborative Work

One of the standout updates is Copilot Pages, a tool designed to foster team collaboration on a dynamic, shared canvas. This feature allows multiple users to work together, with Ai providing real-time support by generating, editing, and suggesting content. It enables teams to iterate on projects without needing to switch between tools constantly.

“Pages takes what Ai creates and makes it durable, editable, and shareable,” said Jared Spataro, Corporate Vice President, Ai at Work. “This is a new way of working, where human and Ai collaboration can happen in real time.”

Python Integration in Excel

Another key update is the integration of Python into Excel. This addition is aimed at making advanced data analysis more accessible by allowing users to leverage Python’s capabilities without needing to code.

“Copilot in Excel with Python opens up new opportunities for businesses to conduct in-depth analysis like risk assessments and forecasting,” Spataro explained. “Anyone can now work with complex data without relying on coding.”

This new feature is currently in public preview, with businesses already reporting improved data management and decision-making processes.

Enhanced Capabilities in Teams and Outlook

Microsoft has also introduced improvements to Copilot in Teams and Outlook. In Teams, Copilot can now review both meeting transcripts and chat logs, ensuring that no question or detail is overlooked. This feature will be available from September 2024.

Meanwhile, in Outlook, the “Prioritize my inbox” feature helps users navigate their emails by analysing their importance based on content and role-specific criteria. This ensures critical messages are easily identified, helping users manage their inbox more effectively.

Customer Testimonials on Ai Advancements

Several Aussie businesses have already seen the benefits of integrating Copilot into their operations. Telstra, for example, has expanded its strategic partnership with Microsoft to harness the power of Ai across its network.

“As we enter the Ai era, connectivity has become more essential than ever,” said Telstra CEO Vicki Brady. “Generative Ai tools like Copilot are exciting, but they rely on secure, reliable connectivity. We’re equipping our people with the best technology to ensure they can focus on more meaningful tasks.”

Telstra reported that early adopters of Copilot have saved up to two hours per week, with 90 per cent of users agreeing that the tool has improved their work experience.

Life insurance provider TAL has also entered a three-year strategic agreement with Microsoft. The partnership aims to integrate advanced Ai technologies to enhance customer and employee experiences while driving innovation within the life insurance sector.

“Our collaboration with Microsoft enables us to leverage advanced technology to improve the experiences of our customers, partners, and employees,” said Hinesh Chauhan, Chief Information Officer at TAL. “Copilot for Microsoft 365 is a key part of our strategy to lead digital transformation in life insurance.”

TAL has seen significant results, with staff reporting savings of up to six hours a week on routine tasks. Around 60 per cent of employees have stated that Copilot has made them more productive.

Improving Business Efficiency with Copilot Agents

Another significant announcement is the introduction of Copilot agents. These Ai-powered tools are designed to automate and manage business processes, from simple tasks to more complex, autonomous actions. Copilot agents work in the background, helping businesses scale operations more efficiently.

“With Copilot agents, we’re giving businesses the tools to grow and reduce costs,” Spataro added. “These agents can handle repetitive tasks, allowing teams to focus on higher-value work.”

Looking Ahead

The updates to Microsoft 365 Copilot are part of a broader strategy to integrate Ai into the workplace, streamlining operations and enhancing productivity. Microsoft has received feedback from nearly 1,000 customers, making over 700 updates to the product based on user input.

“From small businesses to large enterprises, we’re continually improving Copilot to meet the needs of our customers,” Spataro said. “We’ve made Copilot responses two times faster, with satisfaction increasing threefold.”

More updates are expected in the coming months, with Microsoft aiming to expand the capabilities of Copilot and introduce it to more sectors.

Businesses Across the Globe Embrace Copilot

Internationally, businesses are also experiencing the benefits of Microsoft’s Copilot. For instance, Vodafone has invested in the technology for 68,000 employees, while Honeywell employees reported saving an average of 92 minutes per week using Microsoft 365 Copilot.

“Copilot has become a daily habit for many,” said Spataro. “We’re seeing businesses complete tasks faster, hold more efficient meetings, and streamline their processes.”

Microsoft continues to push its Ai initiatives forward, promising more innovations to come. To start using Copilot, customers can visit the Microsoft 365 website or download the app on their devices.
