Summary
Unbelievable value for an ultraportable business laptop that’s perfect for work and school.
I’ve been a huge fan of MSI Prestige laptops in the past. These ultraportable gems can come with discreet graphics chips for gaming and arrive in colours like show-stopping hot pink. The MSI Prestige 14 AI Evo C1MG is more of a grey ultraportable and it’s ballooned in size, but that doesn’t stop it being highly attractive. I’ve seen some stunning portable laptops lately, including one that became our overall Number 1 Best Laptop, so, where does the latest Prestige rank?

Features, Ergonomics and Design
I could go on and on about the hot pink Prestige of yesteryear but lately, Australians have had to get used to the ‘Stellar Grey’ chassis of the modern Prestiges. The laptops are part of MSI’s business range, which means they’ve been tested and tortured, much more so than consumer devices. Furthermore, it’s worth remembering that, when it comes to business ultraportables, knowing your important, work laptop – and all its data – can survive life on the road (and not be targeted by criminals for its ostentatious appearance) is important.
So, regardless of appearance, it’s worth remembering that the Prestige 14 AI Evo C1MG feels high quality and fits into a corporate environment, which is what the target market wants.

Opening it up reveals the 14-inch, Full HD, IPS screen. It’s got a matte coating, so reflections aren’t an issue and it gets very bright which means it can more-easily be used outside. The 1,920 x 1,200 is enough to keep the Windows Desktop crisp and clear and the lack of super-high resolution means that it’s more comfortable to focus on text-based office tasks.

The colour performance makes multimedia look very good and the bright, high-contrast nature of the (non-HDR) screen means details are revealed in both dark and bright areas (with only the brightest areas blowing out). There’s some stepping in colourful and monochromatic gradients, but nothing too distracting.
The 144Hz refresh rate (which can dynamically drop to 60Hz for power saving) does a reasonable job of fending-off blur for fast-moving objects but the slow pixel response time doesn’t eliminate the issue. It’s not ideal for fast-and-frantic gaming.
The twin, two-Watt speakers are very good. They provide well-rounded fidelity from the top to bottom of the audio range, they get loud and there’s punchy bass, too.
Above the Prestige 14 AI’s screen is a Full HD webcam (with privacy slide) that does a very good job of avoiding grain in low light. The microphone array also does an impressive job of capturing clear audio in noisy environments. There’s also an IR camera (and a fingerprint reader) for Windows Hello facial-recognition log-in.

It also works with the Tobii Experience app to monitor you while working: it will blur the screen if you look away or if someone looks over your shoulder and it can lock the screen if you go elsewhere. It works well.
The Scrabble Tile keyboard is very comfortable and accurate to type upon. I flat-out hate the squished, doubled-up arrow keys but, the way they’ve been positioned, meant that I didn’t have many issues feeling for the right ones. The keyboard also has three levels of white backlighting and it looks very good with the translucent key-surrounds.

The trackpad is smooth and accurate, although ours was slightly damaged and had a rattly edge. I suspect that’s from it being exhibited at multiple roadshows before arriving in my lab. However, I’ve also played with several other of these Prestige’s lately and none of them have had the issue.
It’s worth mentioning that the ‘AI’ designation in this laptop’s name refers to the AI power options which automatically adjust to the task you’re doing. While helpful, the mode-change pop-up might get on some people’s nerves. If this is the case, you can manually select the power mode in the MSI Center app.
Still, all in all, this Prestige is a very good laptop to interact with for extended periods.
Features, Ergonomics and Design Score: 3.7 / 5
Performance
Inside MSI’s Prestige 14 AI Evo C1MG is an Intel Core Ultra 5 125H processor that operates between 1.2 and 4.5GHz across four Performance cores, eight Efficient cores and two Low Power Efficient cores (and 18 threads). It has integrated, seven-core, Intel Arc graphics which runs at 2.2GHz and is flanked by 16GB of DDR5-5600 RAM and a 512GB NVMe SSD. The hard drive is a bit small. There is a spare slot for a second one, though.
In the PCMark 10 benchmark, which uses all components, the Prestige scored 6,523 which is above average in the big, wide world of laptops and very impressive for an ultraportable. (Score: 2.9 / 5)
In the Cinebench rendering tests, the Prestige scored 2,129 in the rapid R15 test and 13,842 in the longer, R23 test. That, too, is good for an ultraportable and noticeably better than the latest Lunar Lake processors can manage, owing to their lack of HyperThreading. (Score: 2.2 / 5)

In the 3DMark gaming tests, the Prestige 14 AI was unable to play the difficult, ray-tracing tests, Speed Way and Port Royal.
In the AAA-game-title-mimicking Time Spy and Fire Strike Extreme tests, it scored 3,233 (average 18fps) and 3,538 (average 16.1fps). These scores illustrate that you’ll need to seriously drop resolution and settings to make anything playable.
In the easier Night Raid test, the Prestige scored 26,644 which is an average frame rate of 161fps – so it can play most casual games and low-end, competitive FPS shooters.
I also ran the latest Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 benchmark. At default settings (native resolution with automatically selected settings), the Prestige 14 averaged 41fps with the lowest one per cent of frames (1% Low score) hitting 30fps. That’s on the border of playability. Setting the resolution to Full HD and using Minimum settings (like competitive players would choose), the Prestige averaged 48fps with a 1% Low of 37fps. I found it was just about playable, but there’s some serious stuttering on occasion.
We’ll be folding new benchmarks into our testing suite in 2025. For reference, here’s how MSI’s Prestige 14 AI Evo C1MG performed in them:
UL Procyon Microsoft Office: 5,700
UL Procyon Microsoft Office Multi-Platform: 184,000
UL Procyon Adobe Photoshop Editing: 4,897
UL Procyon Adobe Premiere Video Editing: 7,426
UL Procyon Ai Vision (CPU): 92
UL Procyon Ai Vision (GPU): 76
3DMark Solar Bay: 10,871
3DMark Steel Nomad: 631
3DMark Steel Nomad Light: 2,743
3D Performance Score: 1.5
Cooling
Under heavy load, the Prestige 14 AI can get rather warm and the fan will ramp up to a light, yet robust, whoosh. I’ve certainly heard worse and, under general usage, it’s silent and doesn’t get more than tepid. There’s not much evidence of thermal throttling either: its score only dropped by 1.1 per cent in our 30-minute long Cinebench R23 rendering test.
Portability and Battery Life
Our memories of super-light, ultraportable Prestiges have been tempered a bit with the AI Evo C1MG . At 1.73KG, it’s not the lightest 14-incher nor is it the smallest with its dimensions of 313 x 267 x 19mm. It’s substantially larger than the other, 14-inch ultraportables I’ve tested recently and a full, half kilo heavier than its predecessor! Fortunately, the small power brick and cables only add an extra 0.383g. Still, its physical size only just fits our definition of being a Portable Laptop.
A reason for the size increase is the huge, 90Wh battery. This ran the PCMark 10 Modern Office Battery test for a whopping 24hrs. That’s two minutes away from the best score I’ve ever seen (from a laptop without hot-swapable batteries) – the Zenbook S 14. It also managed to run the UL Procyon Microsoft Office battery test for a very impressive 20 hours and 17 minutes. There are few laptops I’d leave the house with, without a charger, but this is certainly one of them.

Build quality is impressive and, being a business-class laptop, it’s been tested to a much higher degree than consumer laptops. While it’s not formally MIL-STD-810H certified, it’s passed many of the important tests. There’s very little flex in the screen and the chassis is solid. So, I expect it to easily survive life on the road.
Portability and Battery Life Score: 3.9 / 5
Price, Value and Availability
Business laptops normally come in at a heavy premium, owing to the improved build quality and testing, so I was happy to see that the MSI Prestige 14 AI Evo C1MG costs just $1,899, which is half the price of some rivals. Better still, in the Black Friday sales, it’s on sale for just $1,299. That’s almost one-third of the sticker price of our most-recent, Number 1 laptop winner, the Asus Zenbook S 14. This is enough to elevate, what would otherwise be, a Great Value Laptop Award into a Best Value Laptop award (with a temporary on-sale Value score of 5 / 5).
Value Score: 4.7 / 5
Overall
The MSI Prestige 14 AI Evo C1MG will tick many boxes for those who want a general-purpose, ultraportable laptop. It will take second place in our Best Business Laptop Rankings (when they’re next updated); despite its physical size, its battery life gets it an award for portability; its low price wins it the top award for value; its RRP-based overall score would place it third on our overall Best Laptops list; and its giveaway sale price means it’s *clears throat* our new Number 1 Best Laptop (at least for the moment) with a temporary score of 5 / 5. The only thing it can’t do well is gaming, which some other ultraportables can do.
It’s obviously less refined than Asus’ Zenbook S 14, but it’s also – at the time of writing – almost one-third of the price, more powerful and has better business features. Regardless of what happens to the market in the next few days – as we come up to Black Friday and the holidays – this is a phenomenal laptop and the price adds a cherry on top. Don’t walk… run. I expect it to sell-out quickly.
Overall: 4.9 / 5
