Chuwi UniBook Becomes First Intel Wildcat Lake Laptop, Takes Aim At MacBook Neo For Around $449

Chuwi UniBook Claims First Intel Wildcat Lake Laptop, Takes Aim At MacBook Neo For Around US$449

Chinese PC maker Chuwi has unveiled the UniBook, which it claims is the first laptop powered by Intel’s Wildcat Lake Core 3 304 processor, targeting university students, entrepreneurs and young professionals at a starting price of around US$449.

The device runs on Intel’s Core Series 3 chip built on the Intel 18A process, featuring five cores and five threads with speeds up to 4.3GHz. Chuwi is positioning it as a direct competitor to Apple’s MacBook Neo, which starts at US$599.

Specifications

The UniBook features a 14-inch Full HD (1,920 x 1,200) IPS display with 100 per cent sRGB colour accuracy, 8GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 256GB PCIe 3.0 SSD. Wireless connectivity covers WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, and the laptop ships with Windows 11 Pro.

Battery life is rated at 15 to 20 hours under what Chuwi describes as comprehensive working conditions, powered by a 53.38Wh battery. The laptop also includes active cooling and a 180-degree hinge.

Port selection as a differentiator

Where Chuwi appears to be drawing the sharpest contrast with Apple’s MacBook Neo is in connectivity. The UniBook includes two full-function USB-C ports, a standard HDMI 2.0 output supporting 4K at 60Hz, two USB 3.2 Gen1 ports, one USB 2.0 port, a Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 jack, a TF card slot and a 3.5mm audio jack.

By comparison, the MacBook Neo offers two USB-C ports and a 3.5mm headphone jack, with no HDMI, USB-A, Ethernet or card reader.

The UniBook also includes a two-level white backlit keyboard, a feature absent from the base model MacBook Neo.

Battery and display advantages

The UniBook’s 53.38Wh battery is larger than the MacBook Neo’s 36.5Wh cell, and the 14-inch display is an inch larger than the MacBook Neo’s 13-inch panel.

However, the MacBook Neo holds advantages in wireless connectivity with WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 6.0 support compared to the UniBook’s WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2. Apple’s A18 Pro chip also runs a six-core configuration.

Chuwi notes the final appearance of the UniBook may differ slightly from current images. Pricing and availability details beyond the estimated US$449 starting price have not yet been confirmed.
